How Peppol IDs work in France

French companies are primarily identified on Peppol by their SIREN and SIRET numbers. The SIREN is a 9-digit company number assigned by INSEE. The SIRET consists of 14 digits and combines the SIREN with a 5-digit internal classification number, known as the NIC, which identifies the establishment.

French participants are primarily registered on Peppol using scheme 0225, which is based on the SIREN and is used as part of the e-invoicing reform. They may also be registered using scheme 0009 for the SIRET or scheme 0002 for the SIREN.

E-invoicing reform in France

France is rolling out a nationwide e-invoicing reform. From 1 September 2026, all businesses must be able to receive electronic invoices. Issuing electronic invoices will become mandatory on the same date for large enterprises and intermediate-sized enterprises (ETIs), and from 1 September 2027 for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and micro-enterprises.

Invoices will be exchanged through platforms approved by the French government. Peppol is playing an increasingly important role in interoperability between these platforms.
